Getting Started With Living History
Fun for everyone!
Living history is a fun hobby for individuals and families alike.
If you’ve ever admired historical films with beautiful costumes or if you just love history, you will probably really enjoy the hands-on experience that comes with the hobby of living history.
Some living historians even work as interpreters at historical sites.
Who will you portray?
Next is to consider the type of impression, or role, you want to portray. Most living historians take their impression seriously and pride themselves on representing their character or their era of history as accurately as possible. That’s because a big part of this hobby is all about learning as much about the era as possible through the eyes of the person whose role you’re portraying. But we still want to have fun! While some may take “authenticity” to an extreme, we happily welcome anyone who has any level of interest.
Complete your outfit
Once you know the era and impression you want to portray, you’ll want to think about the clothes your character will wear. There are many resources available with regards to how to acquire the appropriate clothing – from sewing patterns if you’re handy with a sewing machine, to vendors who can make your clothes for you.
